Mike Bailey

Michael Bailey, CFA is the Director of Research and chair of the Investment Committee at FBB Capital Partners, a boutique Washington, D.C.-area, investing firm. He is the author of Stop. Think. Invest. (McGraw Hill, January 2022), a book that describes a stock picking and portfolio management process that uses behavioral finance techniques stemming from the work of Nobel laureates Daniel Kahneman (author of Thinking Fast and Slow) and Richard Thaler (co-author of Nudge). At FBB, Michael is responsible for monitoring and analyzing macro and micro economic data, secular industry trends, and identifying appropriate investments for client portfolios.

Previously, Michael was as a buy-side research analyst with 1919 Investment Counsel (part of Stifel Financial) and Legg Mason Investment Counsel. Michael's primary focus in this role was recommending stocks in the healthcare industry and managing a model healthcare portfolio, while also covering financial and industrial stocks and advising Legg Mason's socially responsible investment (SRI) group.

Prior to Legg Mason, Michael was a Vice President and equity research analyst with Bear Stearns, where he followed the medical device industry. Michael's team at Bear Stearns won recognition from Institutional Investor as a highly ranked sell-side research group. Earlier in his career, Michael worked for Raymond James, First Albany, and Morgan Stanley, following the pharmaceutical and technology industries as well as the automotive sector.

Michael’s financial insights and analysis have been featured in appearances on CNBC, Fox Business Network, NPR, and Bloomberg Radio, as well as in the Wall Street Journal, CNN.com, Forbes, Kiplinger, Barron’s, and The Washington Post. Michael has also been a guest lecturer in finance at the university undergraduate level.

Michael earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Emory University, and a Master of Arts in International Economics and MBA from Johns Hopkins University. Michael is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the CFA Society of Washington, D.C. Michael has advised investment clubs at the elementary and high school level in the Washington, D.C. area. Michael and his wife Maria live in Potomac, Maryland with their five children.
