James Demmert

A recent recipient of Barrons magazine’s coveted Top Advisor ranking and Top 100 People In Finance, James has been managing investment portfolios for institutional and individual investors for over 35 years. He has experience in all aspects of investment management including equity and fixed income research, trading and portfolio management. He has particular expertise in macro-economic research and risk management and is responsible for creating the firm’s Active Risk Management processes. He is a seasoned wealth manager and is experienced in the areas of retirement, financial, estate and tax planning.

James is the author of two award winning investment books. The Journey to Wealth and his latest book focused on endowments entitled, The Sustainable Endowment. He has authored numerous articles on finance and investment management and his work has appeared in many financial publications including The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, BusinessWeek and Fortune.

James is a sought after speaker and provides audiences with a wide range of investment topics. He has spoken for a number of public and private organizations, including the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) and is a regular speaker at Charles Schwab events.

A devoted philanthropist, James was nominated as the 2018-19 Citizen of The Year for his dedication of giving back to both the local and global community. He is passionate about teaching finance and investing and is in his 20th year providing internship programs for young adults as well serving as an interim professor. He is a member of Forbes Finance Council, The CFA Institute and the Financial Planning Association. James serves on a number of boards and is a Trustee of Berkshire School, located in Sheffield, Massachusetts..

James past experience includes positions with LF Rothschild and Lehman Brothers before founding Main Street in 1993. He is a graduate of Harvard University.

When James is not pursuing his passion for investing and philanthropy, he can be found spending time with his family, participating in vintage auto rallies, traveling and playing tennis. As a jazz fan, one of James favorite movies is Whiplash. His current favorite read is Ray Dalio’s, Principles.
